DSL versus Cable?  Bellsouth or Comcast?  Which should I choose for high speed internet in Boca Raton and all over Palm Beach County?.Which is better? That's a damned fine question to ask!  In fact, we get asked that question every single day, as we go about installing both cable modems and dsl modems in homes and businesses all over Boca Raton.
Which is better?  For the average home user in Palm Beach County, it really isn't a critical decision.  Both cable and dsl are broadband, or high speed internet connections.  After you are done with the promotional pricing:
  • each is roughly $50 a month or so, and well worth it.
  • each is really fast
  • each is available in at least two speed classes
  • the classes are fast, and Holy **** that's fast!
After that, a couple of distinctions start to emerge.  If you live in an area that is fairly new, less than five years old, the buried cable will be of good quality. If you live in a high density area, with lots of subscribers, your cable will be of good quality and your service quite reliable.

If you live in an older area, expect more interuptions with cable service.  If you live in an area that is both low density and somewhat older, your cable internet connection might start to suck.  Several of the older gated communities in Boca, who shall remain nameless, fall into this category!Oh, and if you live on the Beach, your cable internet might really  and truly suck.

Having said all that, cable service under Comcast is much improved over cable service from Adelphia.
Broadband serve cable Internet and DSL are popular because both are so much faster than dial up access. Both cable and DSL come in several speed levels. Unlike dialup, with high speed internet for home users, usually you can only get cable internet access through the company that provides cable TV service to your neighborhood. Comcast serves Broward County, Palm Beach County, and Dade County. Boca Raton, Boynton, Delray, Lantana, Lake Worth, West Boca, West Palm, Palm Beach, are just some of their areas.
